Big News

Because we are both huge design/web dorks, Rui and I made this blog for Lily Ashlyn, which we'll update with belly-growth and new ultrasound pictures, as well as general updates on how things are going.

So a little backstory for everyone...

I found out I was pregnant about 6 weeks ago. I was scared and didn't know what to do, and Rui was extremely supportive and there for me in more ways that you can imagine. I made a doctors appointment for a week later, where after an ultrasound they told me I was 13 weeks. Rui and I had talked about it a lot, and thought at the time that adoption was the best option, though no definite decision was made. With me being adopted it seemed like an obvious choice, especially because at the time we both felt that we weren't ready for the responsibility of a child.

But time moves forward, and after several weeks of silence both Rui and I told our parents. The responses we got were astounding. My mother (who I told first separately) already had a women's intuition that I was pregnant, and was extremely supportive. Another surprise that I didn't expect - besides the total lack of yelling on her part - was that she was a strong advocate for keeping the baby. Together my mother and I told my dad, who's first response was in a happy tone: "I'm going to be a grandpa?... *pause*.. Okay, if it's a boy I like the names Scott and.. etc, etc". Obviously he was also a big supporter of keeping the baby.

Rui's parents, from my understanding, had a very similar reaction to the news. His mother was very supportive and also mentioned that she could help take care of the baby, and would help us out any way they could if we decided to keep him/her. Rui's father loves kids, and was yet an other advocate for raising the baby.

The more friends and family that were told, the more support and love we were getting from everyone. Pretty much ever single person who was told personally said that if there was anything they could do, to just let them know. My cousins on my dad's side were especially excited. My cousin Jessica was on the phone telling me of her plans for an English tea party themed shower, Courtney was so excited and continued to mention over and over how she was going to come to Rochester and visit me, and my Aunt Pam was wondering the best approach to get Jess to hand over some of the shower. For the most part everyone who we told were excited and wished for us to keep the baby.

On March 12th Rui and I went to the first ultrasound. Although I was slowly falling in love from the moment I found out I was pregnant, it was seeing that little life for the first time that solidified everything I had felt up until that point. I've never loved anything more in my whole life. Pictures from that visit are over to the right.

We also learned (as you just did if you took a quick look at the pictures or took a hint from the name) that we were having a little baby girl. Rui joked that he called it from the beginning. If it wasn't obvious by this point, we are definitely keeping the little baby girl. We are going to be moving in together, Rui and I, in August with baby girl due later that month on the 26th.

Rui and I officially picked out a name. Lily Ashlyn. She is going to have just so much love, from everyone.

Also, if you have any questions or anything, leave a comment or send either of us an email/IM. No question is too stupid, or comment to small. I means a lot that people would have any at all.

Whaaaaaat?! Now I feel like a horrible friend! I had no idea...congratulations tho...her name is beautiful! I wish you both the best with this lil one coming along. Although she was unexpected, she obviously has ignited something in you that only those put in that position could possibly understand. It's a beautiful thing. Congrats again!

Yowza. I had no idea either. Being as how I'm decidedly out of the loop anyways I'm not at all surprised. Regardless, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! That's awesome news and you guys are really brave for deciding to raise her yourselves. I can honestly say that if I had heard news like this about MY girlfriend I would find out right away what brown can do for me, and then promptly go out and buy a new pair of pants. Keep me posted on how things are going (you have several methods of gettin-at-me (aim, facebook, etc.)). Good luck you guys! ttyl Chird
